About this calculator
When you add new pneumatic tools, machinery, or production lines, your existing compressor may not be able to keep up. This calculator estimates the additional capacity required so you can right-size a second compressor or replacement unit.
Rule of thumb in compressed air: roughly 4 CFM per horsepower at 100 PSIG for a standard rotary screw compressor. Always add a safety factor of 10–20% for leaks, future growth, and pressure drop.
Formula
Additional CFM = (New Total Demand × Safety Factor) − Current Capacity. Estimated HP = Additional CFM ÷ 4.
